The Thais don’t really do breakfast as we would know it and where breakfasts are available, it’s generally because there is a Falang presence in the area and it’s that market that’s being catered for.  But when you get into the areas where a white face is unusual then you can pretty much forget any thoughts of a croissant and cappuccino.

I don’t claim to be an expert here but there seems to be a general attitude that food is food, regardless of time of day and it’s common to see Khao Pad (Fried Rice) or any other Thai dish being prepared at 8am – the Thai Fish Sauce (Nam Pla) is ubiquitous but, to my Western sensitivities, the pervasive smell of Nam Pla seems incongruous at this time of day.  But it makes me smile.
